ODM Picks Former Ward Rep Ken Ngondi For Speaker

Former deputy speaker of the Nairobi County Assembly Ken Ngondi is planning a political comeback after ODM selected him to be the speaker.

Ngondi is the only candidate for the Orange Democratic Movement party in the contest.

This was after receiving the support of the party and MCAs-elect who are affiliated with Azimio,

Between 2013 and 2017, he assisted the late Alex Ole Magelo as deputy speaker.

The former lawmaker also held the positions of chairperson of the county assembly’s Health committee and ward representative for Kware Ward in the Embakasi South constituency.

“I have expressed my interest to be the next Speaker of Nairobi County Assembly based on the experience I have, having worked as the Deputy Speaker,” Ngondi said.

“What I bring on the table is a wealth of experience. I have been a councillor, chairman of the Public Health committee and deputy speaker. I served both roles for five years.”

Ngondi abandoned his plans to compete for the Embakasi South constituency seat on an ODM ticket.

However, the Jubilee party on Friday put Harrison Wangoro forth as its speaker candidate, setting the stage for a fight inside Azimio over the position.

Wangoro ran for the Embakasi North parliamentary seat but was defeated by a UDA candidate.

UDA is anticipated to support a speaker candidate as well.
