Protests are Still On – Azimio Insists Despite Ruto’s Warning

Anti-government protests will continue as earlier announced, Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance coalition party has said.

Speaking after a Parliamentary Group meeting at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Foundation on Monday, National Assembly minority leader Opiyo Wandayi said no one has the power to stop the protests.

The Ugunja MP slammed the President William Ruto-led administration for blaming the handshake regime for its failures.

“Kenya Kwanza is still the only political formation still talking about the handshake regime. They are hiding their failures in the handshake regime and have failed to deliver… it is why Kenyans have lost faith in them,” he said.

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna on his part claimed that the head of state summoned Kenya Kwanza leaders to State House where they were allegedly instructed to hire goons.

According to the lawmaker, the police had ignored a shoot to kill directive from Interior CS Kithure Kindiki hence the State House meeting.

“Police officers chose to ignore the illegal directive of shoot to kill by CS Kithure Kindiki because of their respect for the Rule of Law and that’s why Ruto summoned MPs to State House and instructed them to hire goons to do the devil’s work,” said Sifuna.

During the protests, the ODM secretary general insisted, it will not be Kenyans vs Kenyans.

“We will not fight our fellow countrymen. In Nairobi there are many communities, we all face the same problems… Kenyans want to eat, it doesn’t matter how long you cover your ears, tutapiga hayo maskio hadi wasikie kilio cha Wakenya,” he added.

Last week, the opposition announced that protests will kick off on Wednesday through to Friday due to public demand.
