Raila Rejects Results Declaring DP Ruto President-elect

Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance presidential candidate Raila Odinga has declared that the results declaring DP William Ruto as the president-elect are null and void.

Flanked by his running mate Martha Karua, and Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Raila rejected the results as announced by IEBC chair Wafula Chebukati on Monday at the Bomas of Kenya.

“We totally and without reservation reject the presidential results announced yesterday by Wafula Chebukati,” said the former Prime minister at the KICC on Tuesday afternoon.

He criticized Chebukati for using intimidation to announce the results without consulting the other IEBC commissioners beforehand.

“Let no one take the law into their own hands. We are pursuing constitutional and lawful channels to invalidate Chebukati’s illegal and unconstitutional pronouncement. We are certain that justice will prevail,” Raila said.

Raila said the four IEBC dissenting Commissioners are the real heroes.

“We are proud of them and ask them not to fear anything because Kenyans are with them.”

He also stated that Chebukati’s actions could have plunged the country into war.

“He could have plunged the country into chaos. Such impunity can be a threat to security. It is not up to us to determine whether Chebukati has committed illegality,” he said.

Ruto received more than 25% of the votes cast in 39 of the 47 counties, above the minimum 24 counties needed by the Constitution.

Raila on the other hand received 25% of the votes cast in 34 counties.
