“Having been born and brought up largely in Nyando, and having actively participated in national and party politics as a voter and advisor, it is against this backdrop that my interest to serve my people sprouts,” he said.

Education and ICT, health and agriculture, arts, sports, and the creative economy, as well as infrastructure (road and electricity) and security, were among the areas he indicated he would prioritize.

Elias Okumu of the ODM is the current ward representative of Kileleshwa, a position he has held since 2013.

Okumu served as Nairobi County’s Minority Leader from 2017 to November 2019, when Raila Odinga’s party replaced him with Karen MCA David Mberia.

Elias has his sights trained on the Suna East parliamentary seat currently held by National Assembly minority whip, Junet Mohamed.

Alai will compete for the seat against Ayisha Shollei (UDA) should he clinch the ODM ticket which is also being sought by Perpetua Okello.
