Sabina Chege Asks Azimio to Reconsider Ouster as Deputy Minority Whip

Nominated Member of the Parliament Sabina Chege has said she has done nothing to justify her removal as deputy Minority Whip.

Speaking during the National Prayer Breakfast on Wednesday, Sabina said the only thing she did was to prioritize the country.

“Even as they are planning on removing me as a deputy Minority Whip, I hope Mr Speaker will look at me with a better eye,” she said.

She noted that even though she campaigned for the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance coalition party leader Raila Odinga, she had since come to terms with President William Ruto’s victory.

“We handed over power, we must work with the government of the day, not for ourselves but for the betterment of Kenya. I have also reconciled with myself,” she said.

Last month, the opposition ejected the former Murang’a Woman Rep from the position after she pledged to work with the government.

“Hon. Mwenje takes over from Sabina Chege with immediate effect,” said Minority leader in the National Assembly Opiyo Wandayi after a Parliamentary Group meeting.

Earlier, National Assembly speaker Moses Wetang’ula had declined to confirm her removal without a replacement.

He instructed the opposition to provide a fresh name.

“The Minority Communication is incomplete, I hereby grant Minority Party a period of 30 days from today to put its house in order and decide whether they still want to pursue the changes.”
