Sakaja Asks for Forgiveness Over Alleged Tiff with DP Gachagua

Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has asked for forgiveness over the alleged squabble between him and deputy president Rigathi Gachagua.

The county boss on Tuesday said the alleged spat is “hot air” being advanced by individuals that are not part of the city leadership.

Sakaja said certain people are taking advantage of the situation. He also stated that he does not have a problem with the DP.

“I ask Kenyans for forgiveness on this claimed tiff as it is being taken advantage of. I have no problem with my Deputy President,” he said.

Speaking to Inooro TV, the county chief said some leaders are using the situation to make political mileage.

This he said as he warned those trying to meddle in the city business to keep off matters that do not concern them.

“Some politicians are using the situation to gain political muscle. I want to tell them to refrain from getting involved in Nairobi affairs that don’t concern them,” said Sakaja.

The former Nairobi senator urged his supporters to refrain from speaking ill of the deputy president, a man he said he has respect for.

“I have never insulted anyone including DP Gachagua who is a man and a leader I respect so much. I, therefore, ask my supporters not to participate in the self-claimed tiff,” he said, adding that he believes in “siasa safi”.

He also stated that party (UDA) matters will be handled internally as he dismissed claims that he has been summoned by the party disciplinary committee.

Sakaja and DP Gachagua have seemingly been at loggerheads following the ban of long-distance matatus from the CBD and nightclubs in residential areas.

On Sunday, the former Mathira MP asked PSV operators and bar owners to ignore the governor’s directives and stay put.

“Our administration will protect businesses. We are not like the previous regime which killed businesses. I am telling business people to continue with their work and no one will harass them and I mean what I say,” Gachagua told Inooro TV.

He stated that leaders will consult on the matter before any action is taken. He cited the Tearoom Stage which he said should it be done away with, then businesses within the area will suffer.

“For instance, you want to kill the tearoom stage. The moment you do away with that stage, you kill hundreds of shops along that road. Is that what my boss (President William Ruto) and I promised Kenyans? Not at all,” he continued.
