Three UDA Murang’a Senatorial Aspirants Shelve Ambitions to Support Joe Nyutu

Deputy President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) will not hold nominations for the Murang’a senate seat after the contenders agreed to support one candidate.

Kamau Mutuota, Macharia Mburu, and James Karihe agreed to drop their bids in favor of Joe Nyutu.

Murang’a senator Irungu Kang’ata and Kandara MP Alice Wahome spearheaded lengthy negotiations that resulted in the accord.

Mutuota stated that he was not forced to make the decision, nor was he paid to drop his bid, but that he did so out of his own free will.

“We got to a negotiating table and had to choose the strongest candidate amongst us and thus agreed to support him.

“This is going to save the party the resources and time we would have spent in the primaries and now our focus will be to drum up support for the candidate as well as Deputy President William Ruto who is our presidential flag bearer,” he said.

He also implied that this was to strike a balance on the county’s boundary issue, saying that the north would produce the governor and the south would produce the senator.

“This issue is bound to come up and will spark a heated debate but in our party we have sorted it out by having Kang’ata from North as the governor and Nyutu from South as the senator,” he added.

Nyutu, for one, praised his opponents for taking this step, expressing confidence in his ability to win the seat in the August 9 elections.

He alleged that there was a plot to tamper with the party in the county.

“We got the intelligence report about this and opted to put our house in order before things got messed up.

“I am confident of winning this seat and I promise the people of Murang’a that I will deliver better leadership to them,” he continued.

The incumbent will be vying for the governor seat.
