Nairobi Governor: Tim Wanyonyi To Defend Westlands Seat, Wiper’s Kaloki to Deputize Igathe

The Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance has reached a decision on the team that will seek elective seats in Nairobi county.

In an address at KICC after a meeting with aspirants, the alliance’s flagbearer Raila Odinga said they had settled for Equity Group Commercial Chief Officer Polycarp Igathe for the governorship.

Igathe who joined the race as late as last week will be deputized by former Kibwezi MP Prof Philip Kaloki of the Wiper Party.

As for Richard Ngatia, Raila said he will be appointed as the President’s special envoy for Trade effective immediately.

Westlands MP Tim Wanyonyi who was also seeking to unseat Governor Anne Kananu, will now defend his parliamentary seat on an ODM ticket.

No mention was made of businesswoman Agnes Kagure who was seeking the Jubilee party ticket.

Kagure has remained adamant that she is in the race till the end.

“Ignore idle rumours that I have stepped down from the Nairobi gubernatorial race. This is no longer about me, but about us, and I have no intentions of abandoning you halfway. We must finish this journey, and realize the Nairobi we all desire. Thank you for the support,” she tweeted on Friday morning.

Earlier reports indicated that President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila had prevailed upon Wanyonyi and he was going to deputize Igathe in the event he clinches the seat.

ODM will field party secretary general Edwin Sifuna for the senate seat and Esther Passaris for the Woman Rep post.

Sifuna will compete with UDA’s Margaret Wanjiru. Passaris will go head to head with Millicent Omanga of UDA.
