UDA Settles for Hassan Omar, Four Others for EALA Jobs

The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has settled for the five finalists for the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) jobs.

During a Parliamentary Group meeting held at the State House and chaired by President William Ruto, the legislators settled for former Mombasa senator Hassan Omar, former Nandi Woman Representative Zipporah Kering and former Nominated MP David Sankok.

Others are former United Republican Party (URP) secretary general Fred Muteti and former nominated senator Falhada Dekow Iman.

The ruling party had shortlisted 15 candidates. The 10 who have missed out on the EALA slots will, according to reports, land government jobs.

The ten include; Yasser Bajaber, Salim Busidy, Lilian Tomitom, Cyprian Iringo, Jonas Kuko, and Abdikadir Aden.

Others were; Joel Nyambane, Godfrey Karobia, Rebecca Lowoiya and Anne Too.

Initially, the majority party had received 145 applications while Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance had 96, independents 16, Kenya National Congress 1, NRA 1, while 28 had not indicated their political affiliation.

Azimio la Umoja has since settled for 6 including Winnie Odinga, Mombasa businessman Suleiman Shahbal, former Kitutu Masaba MP, and the party’s National Treasurer Timothy Bosire, Former Turkana Water and Irrigation CEC Beatrice Askul, former Shinyalu MP Justus Kizito and Mohammed Diriye (Wajir).

Kenya Kwanza is entitled to five slots and Raila Odinga’s Azimio la Umoja four.

In the Azimio la Umoja sharing formula, ODM will get two slots while Kalonzo Musyoka’s Wiper will get one and retired President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee will also get one.

MPs will vote by secret ballot on Thursday.
