Uhuru and I Did Not Share Cabinet Slots – DP Ruto Claims

President Uhuru Kenyatta and I did not share cabinet slots, deputy President William Ruto has revealed.

He made the revelations during his Chatham House address in London on Monday.

According to the DP, the president called all the shots during their stay in office.

“There were no dockets that were given to me. I didn’t appoint any minister anywhere. Everybody was appointed by the President of Kenya,” he said.

Dr Ruto’s assertions were the complete opposite of what his boss said during the Sagana III meeting.

During the meeting, the president told the electorate that he and his deputy shared the cabinet slots right down the middle.

But according to the deputy president, the head of state made all the appointments even in the first term.

“In our first term, we ran a coalition government but I can tell you there was no single opportunity where my party held a PG outside Uhuru’s party,” he said.

He also stated that there is huge difference between their first and second terms in office in terms of development.

He cited projects like the standard gauge railway, hundreds of Kilometers of roads constructed and electricity connectivity.

Dr Ruto took credit for all of Jubilee’s achievements in the first term, saying he played a role in seeing them through.

As for the handshake partners, President Kenyatta and opposition leader Raila Odinga, the DP opined that their union resulted in the BBI whose end result was crippling the government’s development agenda.

“The BBI came and killed everything. It is called the government. It killed the opposition. It killed the Big Four agenda. It killed everything,” he said.

He told the audience that the opposition has rendered the current administration ‘a mongrel of a government system’.

The DP also claimed that his boss has now become a ‘refugee’ in the opposition.

“Today in Kenya, we have a mongrel of a government system,” Ruto said.

“You don’t know whether it is the government that is in opposition or the opposition is the one that is in government.”

“The leader of the opposition is a project of the system and the deep state of the government. Unfortunately, the leader of what is supposed to be the ruling party is actually a squatter or a refugee in the opposition party,” he added.

“We have quite a situation.”
