Wajackoyah Denies Endorsing Raila for President

Roots party presidential candidate Prof George Wajackoyah has dispelled claims that he has endorsed Raila Odinga for the top job.

Speaking to the Standard, Wajackoyah, who was heard in a video that has now gone viral, said that his remarks had been misinterpreted.

“I am here to join the battle of liberators in this country and the person who makes me stand here is none other than Raila Amollo Odinga,” the presidential hopeful is heard saying.

He told the daily that he was meeting revelers at a Kisumu club but denied throwing his weight behind the former prime minister.

“I have seen the video. You know people are just mad. William Ruto’s people have created an image of me on Facebook saying I am supporting him. Some are saying I have endorsed Raila,” he said.

“Yes, I said those words, that I look up to Raila just like I what I said about Ruto in Eldoret. I was acknowledging what Raila has done in Nyanza, and what he has done for the people. What is wrong is that?”

In a statement, Roots party spokesperson Wilson Muirani said the clip was “doctored” by the “biased media” to push their candidate, Raila.

Muirani who is popularly known as Jaymo ule Msee, added that the presidential only accorded his competitors some respect by mentioning them.

According to Wajackoyah, their opponents have sensed defeat and have used all shady tactics to give the impression that they were winning this election.

“The notion that Prof Wajackoyah has endorsed Raila Odinga is a hopeless imagination,” he said.

Wajackoyah also assured his supporters that they would win the election and that the other political camps had panicked about their hopes against reality.

The lawyer is one of four presidential candidates who have been given the go-ahead by the IEBC.

Others include Waihiga Mwaure of the Agano Party, Raila Odinga of the Azimio, and UDA’s William Ruto.
