Winnie Odinga, Shahbal in ODM’s Final List of EALA Nominees

Six people from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) have made the final list for its East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) nominees.

They include; businessman Suleiman Shahbal, Mohamed Diriye, Winnie Odinga, Timothy Bosire, Beatrice Askul, and Justus Kizito.

The six represent the counties of Mombasa, Wajir, Nairobi, Nyamira, Turkana, and Kakamega.

The Raila Odinga-led party on Wednesday said that its selection committee headed by former Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya settled on the aforementioned names on Tuesday.

“The ODM Selection Committee presided by DPL @GovWOparanya met yesterday & nominated the following for election to EALA: Suleiman Shahbal- Mombasa Mohammed Diriye- Wajir Winnie Odinga- Nairobi Timothy Bosire- Nyamira Beatrice Askul- Turkana Justus Kizito- Kakamega,” tweeted the Orange party.

Kenya has nine slots up for grabs at the East African Legislative Assembly.

Kenya Kwanza Alliance will get five slots while Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance coalition party will get four seats.

Kenya Kwanza had shortlisted 145, Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance 96, independents 16, Kenya National Congress 1, NRA 1, while 28 had not indicated their political affiliation.

Uhuru’s Jubilee Party has former MPs Naomi Shaban, Jeremiah Kioni, Kanini Kega, Peter Mwathi, Jude Njomo, Maison Leshomo, Ruth Mwaniki, Bonface Gatobu, John Mututho, Fatuma Gedi and former Kajiado Senator Peter Mositet.

Apart from former Baringo Senator, Gideon Moi, Kanu has also shortlisted its Secretary-General Nick Salat, Micah Kigen and Gladwell Cheruiyot. Joseph Naituli is representing Narc-Kenya.

Kenya Kwanza has former Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar Hassan, former Elgeyo-Marakwet Woman Rep Jane Chebaibai, former Laikipia County Woman Rep Catherine Waruguru, Falhad Iman and Anne Too, among others.

Members of Parliament will vote for their preferred candidates by secret ballot on November 17.
