Woman Sues Senator Ledama Over Child Neglect, Demands Sh200k Monthly Upkeep

A woman has sued Narok senator Ledama ole Kina for allegedly neglecting his fatherly responsibilities.

Esther Wanjiru Gatume, 27, has accused the legislator of neglecting their one-year-old son.

She wants the senator to pay Sh200,000 per month for their child’s upkeep.

“That this honourable court is pleased to order the respondent to pay interim maintenance of Ksh200,000 per month, being child support for the minor herein pending hearing and determination of this application,” court documents read in part.

Ms Gatemu also wants the legislator to cater for the minor’s school fees and related expenses and to include the minor in his medical cover pending the hearing and determination of the suit.

In court documents dated November 25, the petitioner alleges that the senator who is a man of means, abandoned her after learning that she was pregnant.

She asserts that they met in September of 2019 and thereafter began an intimate relationship that led to the birth of their son in October of 2020.

“That when I conceived and realized I was pregnant I immediately informed the respondent that he was going to be a father but to my dismay and utter shock the respondent cut off communication with me,” she swears.

Ms Gatemu wants the court to compel Ledama to take care of their minor as she lost her job and can no longer cater to his needs.
