12 Petitions Challenging Gubernatorial Elections Among 123 Election Cases Filed

123 individuals have submitted petitions to contest election outcomes for various positions, a week after the Supreme Court issued a significant decision regarding the Presidential Election Petition.

The Judiciary reported on Wednesday that 12 suits had been submitted at the High Court to challenge the results of the elections for governor, two for senator, four for woman representatives, and 28 for parliamentary elections.

Additionally, 77 petitions contesting the Member of County Assembly elections were submitted to the Magistrates court.

The gubernatorial petitions include: Busia County where Sakwa Bunyasi has challenged the election of Paul Otuoma, in Garissa County, Siyad Abdullahi and Hassan Adam have challenged Governor Nathif Jama’s election.

In Tana River County, Hussein Dado has challenged the election of Governor Dhadho Gaddae Godhana, in Homabay County, Evans Kidero has challenged Gladys Wanga’s election while in Kajiado, Katoo Metito Judah and Pere Judy Neiyeiyo have challenged the election of Joseph Ole Lenku.

Former Kirinyaga Woman Representative Purity Wangui Ngirici and Eliud Wanjao Ngige have challenged the election of Governor Anne Waiguru.

Patrick Musimba has challenged the election of Makueni Governor Mutula Kilonzo Junior, in Kilifi, Justin Ringa Chirume has challenged Gideon Mungaro’s election.

Over in Mombasa, Dziwa Zuma and Suleiman Mwanguku have challenged Governor Abdulswamad Nassir’s election. ODM’s Moitalel Ole Kenta has challenged the election of Narok Governor Patrick Ntutu.

In Nyamira, Dennis Omwenga Ayiera has challenged the election of Governor Amos Nyaribo.

Wasilwa Makhakara and Julius Ole Mokita have challenged the elections in Vihiga and Narok Counties respectively, for the senatorial seats.

Woman Representative elections in Garissa, Kisii, Kilifi and Nyamira Counties have also been petitioned.

Further, 28 Member of Parliament elections have been challenged. Former MPs Maoka Maore, who doubled as the Deputy Majority Chief Whip in the 12th Parliament, Bahati’s Kimani Ngunjiri and Kanini Kega are some of the petitioners.

77 Members of County Assemblies have also expressed dissatisfaction with the elections, and have filed petitions in the Magistrate’s courts.
