The reality in Politics

“Daraja hili mimi mwenyewe ndio nitashugulikia …” Shameless Kalonzo promises after serving as MP for Mwingi for 18 years!

On Saturday afternoon a tragedy hit Kenya after a school bus carrying choir members plunged into River Enziu in Mwingi Constituency, Kitui County.

As of Sunday, 7 bodies including that of a 9-month-old baby were retrieved bringing the death toll to 33.

Earlier today, former vice president Kalonzo Musyoka who visited the church from which the deceased hailed, told the congregants that he would personally take care of the “issue”.

The issue in this case is the almost non-existent bridge.

Kalonzo told the bereaved church members, “Daraja hili mimi mwenyewe ndio nitashughulikia. Nitaongea na mheshimiwa Uhuru Kenyatta ili aambie wanaohusika hatuwezi kuendelea kupoteza maisha ya watu wetu Kwa hili daraja.”

It is, however, important to note that the Wiper party leader who is eyeing the presidency, hails from a remote area within Mwingi Constituency known as Tseikuru.

What is more damning is that Kalonzo, who is now offering to fix the “problem” was the member of parliament for Mwingi for 28 years.

As he claims to be the “fixer” as the electioneering year draws closer, the question that should linger in the voters’ minds is “what has Kalonzo really done for the people?”

The presidential hopeful has been in government as a vice president and minister since 1985.

One would also wonder, “what will he achieve if elected as president that he couldn’t achieve over the last three decade?”

As activist Boniface Mwangi put it, “Kenyans, is there anything Kalonzo has done for our country? One thing. I want to know.”
