DP Ruto Demands Release of Youths Arrested for Disrupting Kisii Rally

Deputy President William Ruto has demanded for the immediate release of youths arrested for heckling him in Kisii on Wednesday.

The DP instead asked the law enforcers to go for those sponsoring the violent events. According to Dr Ruto, violence will not end unless the sponsors of the same are dealt with.

“We tell the law enforcers that as long as they are not going to charge the sponsors of these primitive activities, the young people should be spared from the unnecessary harassment and prosecution. Release the youth,” said Dr Ruto.

The self proclaimed “Chief Hustler” alleged that those behind the chaos have resorted to using the youth for political gain after failing to improve their lives.

“Kenyans are by now aware that for the past couple of days, small groups of youths have been deployed to heckle and generally conduct themselves in a disorderly manner during our engagement with the people,” Dr Ruto said.

He added: “The youth are disproportionately burdened by all negative outcomes of the current top-down governance: poverty, unemployment, inequality, injustice, police brutality, extrajudicial killings and diminished access to opportunity. Conversely, they are equally poorly represented in leadership and opportunities to meaningfully participate in positive change and governance.”

He urged the youth to shun divisive politics and train their focus on building the economy.

“It is an invitation, not to fight or quarrel or heckle or riot, but to reason together on the best way to secure a prosperous future for Kenya that leaves no one behind.”
