Prof Makau Claims Attack on Raila’s Chopper was Assassination Attempt

According to the Raila Odinga Campaign Secretariat, the attack on the chopper in Soy was an attempt on the former Prime Minister’s life.

Makau Mutua, the secretariat’s spokesperson, described the incident as a danger to the country’s peace and stability.

“The despicable and savage attack in Soy on Raila Odinga, the Azimio la Umoja presidential candidate, is a threat to the peace and stability of Kenya. Let’s call a spade what it is – the attack was akin to an attempt on his life. It could easily have resulted in grievous harm to him and members of his entourage,” he said.

According to him, the attack occurred amid frightening campaign rhetoric from their opponents, the United Democratic Alliance, led by Deputy President William Ruto.

Mutua demanded that the Friday event be investigated quickly, stating that political campaigns should not be held in an atmosphere of violence, fear, or intimidation.

He emphasized the importance of involving security organs to ensure full adherence to the constitution and laws in order to maintain peace and order at all times.

“We know only too painfully what has happened in the past every time electoral violence has been orchestrated in this country. We cannot allow the enemies of democracy to take us back there again.”

Governor Jackson Mandago and Soy MP Caleb Kositany were implicated by the ODM leader for the incident.

Mandago, on the other hand, has denied any involvement in the affair, claiming that he is above such low-level scams.

Raila and his team used his car after he arrived in Eldoret for Mzee Kibor’s funeral, he said.

During the incident in Kabenes, the governor’s vehicle was stoned, he said.

“How can I scheme or plan to have my vehicle stoned,” Mandago said.

So far, police have arrested 14 suspects.
