President Uhuru Calls for Peace, Condemns Attack on Raila

President Uhuru Kenyatta has appealed for tolerance among ordinary Kenyans and the political class following an attack on Rails Odinga’s chopper on Friday in Uasin Gishu.

Uhuru expressed regret over the attack saying that no Kenyan should be harmed because of their political beliefs.

“What if Raila was injured in that attack? Kenya would have been on fire right now and that is not what we want,” he said on Sunday.

Uhuru addressed a roadside gathering, saying that Kenyans should embrace mature politics.

“You saw what happened at my home in Gatundu. They insulted me at my doorstep but I chose to be silent about it,” he added.

He warned politicians not to incite Kenyans in their quest for votes.

“Nobody will leave Kenya after elections. We all belong here, so let us go to the elections in peace,” he said.

The Head of State asked political leaders to set an example for Kenyans by promoting peace and coexistence.

“But most importantly, especially for us political leaders, we should behave in a manner that allows our people to live in peace and to go about their business regardless of who sits in which position,” he said.

He urged Kenyans to avoid violence and not to be swayed by self-centred politicians.

“So ask ourselves, if you take a stone or a slasher to go and cut your friend instead of waiting for the next five years to elect your leader of choice, then you have lost direction.”

He went on to say that, while Kenyans elect their leaders through the ballot box, the final decision is up to God.

“Because the decision as to whom shall lead from MCA to the president, as much as it is our responsibility as citizens, it is also God’s will because he speaks through us,” he added.

The ODM leader was attacked in Uasin Gishu on Friday after attending the burial of Mzee Jackson Kibor.

So far police have arrested 17 youths who are implicated in the incident.

MPs Caleb Kositany and his Kapseret counterpart Oscar Sudi on Sunday appeared before DCI Nakuru over the Friday incident.

Also implicated is Uasin Gishu County Assembly Speaker David Kiplagat who is said to have presented himself to the police earlier today.
