Raila Names Kindiki’s Brother Isaiah As Chief Agent

Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance presidential candidate Raila Odinga has named academic scholar Professor Isaiah Kindiki as one of his chief agents in the August 9 election.

Along with Nyeri Deputy Governor Caroline Karugu, ODM Executive Director Oduor Ong’wen, and Raila’s longstanding lawyer Paul Mwangi, Kindiki, who is the elder brother of Tharaka Nithi Senator Kithure Kindiki, will deputize Saitabao ole Kanchory – the Chief Agent.

“I have appointed lawyer Saitabao Sanchory as a national chief agent, he will be deputised by Dr Carolyne Karugu, Prof Isaiah wa Kindiki, Dr Oduor Ongwen and my legal advisor Paul Mwangi,” he said.

Kithure will also be deputy president William Ruto’s chief agent, setting the stage for a fascinating scenario.

Prof Kithure will be assisted by United Democratic Alliance Secretary General Veronica Maina and Turkana Governor Josphat Nanok.

“I have appointed a responsible professional liaison. Our Chief Agent, Kithure Kindiki, will be assisted by Veronica Maina and Turkana Governor Josphat Nanok.

“I want to say Kenya Kwanza has confidence in IEBC. We are confident that you are up to the task. I want to commit that we will work with you diligently to have a credible free fair democratic and verifiable election. Anytime you need our cooperation or in any way our support, Mr Chairman, I want to tell you we are available,” Ruto stated.

Kithure is a staunch supporter of DP Ruto who was appointed after missing out on the running mate position.

On the other hand, his brother is a long-time ODM member who has remained loyal to Raila for years.

His four brothers all have PhDs in different fields, thus the Kindiki family has a reputation for academic excellence.

Kithure has a PhD in law from the University of Pretoria in South Africa, and his older brother, Isaiah, is a professor of soil physics at the same university.

Professor Stephen Kithinki Kindiki teaches linguistics at Daystar University, and professor Moses Mpuria Kindiki is a well-known lecturer at Maasai Mara University.

Jonah Nyaga Kindiki, the eldest of the five, is a professor of International Education and Policy at the University of Birmingham in the United Kingdom.

When both Isaiah and his brother ran for the Tharaka Nithi Senatorial seat in the 2017 General Election, they were on opposing sides.

Kithure ran on a Jubilee party ticket whereas Isaiah ran under ODM. Kithure was re-elected in 2017 after being first elected in 2013.

The brothers have previously stated that their differing ideas and affiliations have no bearing on their relationship outside of politics.

“Family issues are not political. We remain, brothers who have divergent ideologies,” Isaiah told a local daily in a past interview.
