Meet Presidential Candidate, Lawyer, Preacher David Mwaure

David Mwaure Waihiga is one of the four candidates cleared by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to run for the presidency in the August 9 polls.

The leader of the Agano Party is a senior counsel and a seasoned politician who has run for several elected seats in prior elections.

Mwaure is running for the presidency for the second time, having previously nominated himself for the job in 2013 but then abandoned his ambition.

The Senior Counsel is a long-serving attorney with over 35 years of experience, having graduated from the University of Nairobi with a law degree in 1981.

The presidential hopeful holds a master’s degree in leadership from the International Leadership University and is working on a PhD in the same discipline.

“We want to tell Kenyans that we are the only coalition that will fight corruption and fight it completely, these others cannot fight corruption because if you look at the background they are joined at the hip, the men and women who right now are calling themselves big horses this are people who have been there for the last 10, 20 years,” said the presidential hopeful.

Mwaure, an ordained minister of the gospel, has been in active politics for close to two decades having founded the Agano Party around the same time.

The presidential hopeful who has sworn to fight graft, is making his second stab at the country’s top job, having previously announced his candidacy on October 25, 2010.

He eventually dropped out of the contest and ran for Governor of Lamu County, where he has a legal business. He has practiced law in the region for many years and has been involved in social justice efforts in the community.

Mwaure provided legal counsel when the church expressed reservations about some articles in the 2010 constitution.

If elected, he claims his government will endeavor to retrieve all stolen cash stashed overseas and domestically, address the country’s terrible economic problems, and be a voice for the voiceless.
