Presidential Hopeful Wajackoyah Refutes Dual Citizenship Claims

The presidential candidate for the Roots party, Prof George Wajackoyah, has ridiculed those who are trying to derail his campaign for the country’s top seat by asserting that he is a British citizen.

Inquiries regarding Wajackoyah’s British citizenship were presented by former presidential candidate Peter Gichira to the British High Commission.

Gichiria provided evidence from Wajackoyah’s most recent admission that he attempted to compete for a parliamentary seat in the UK, where he lived as a refugee.

He allegedly tried to run for MP in the Commonwealth country, but he made no mention of it.

Wajackoyah emphasized in a statement on Monday that he just possesses Kenyan citizenship and does not require to be a citizen in the UN to live there.

“I have never changed my citizenship. They just ought to go to the internet and google. They are wasting their time to go to the British Embassy. Nobody is deporting me because I am a Kenyan, born in Kenya with very high epistemology in terms of academia,” Wajackoyah told NTV.

“I have been outside the country, Living indefinitely in a country doesn’t necessarily mean you have to be a citizen. These circus need to read before they write they are wasting their time.”

Gichira’s lawyer, Stephen Gachie, said they are awaiting word from the British Commission regarding Wajackoyah’s nationality.

“We want the British High Commission to certify and give us answers to first establish ourselves that indeed he is a citizen of the UK,” Gachie noted.

“And we equally copied our letter to the IEBC to put them in the know of what we are doing as well as to the Director General of the immigration services.”

Candidates for president of Kenya must be Kenyan nationals by birth and free from any obligations to foreign governments, according to the IEBC.

Furthermore, they are not permitted to hold dual citizenship “unless the citizenship of the other country has been gained by operation of law without the right to opt out.”

In an interview with NTV, the presidential hopeful said he was disqualified from vying for a parliamentary seat in Tottenham because he was not married.

He explained at the primary level after filling a questionnaire, he skipped the married part because he was not legally married.

Wajackoyah said they had children, but they were yet to officiate the marriage.

“I have stood for elections in the UK. I was told you are not enough. You are not ripe enough to be a member of parliament for Tottenham because we have checked in this list that you have children but no wife,” he said.
