UDA Flags as Fake Letter Asking Supporters To Protest on Monday

The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has flagged as fake a letter purporting to ask its supporters to show up for demonstrations on Monday.

The letter which has since gone viral was allegedly signed by party secretary general Veronica Maina on September 3.

The letter also contains the party symbol, the wheelbarrow.

It reads: “This is to inform  our supporters that we shall have a protest from Monday 5th as from 8:00Am. This call is for solidarity with millions of Kenyans who woke up to vote on August 9, 2022.”

It adds: “As a party, with its coalition, we feel our victory and the will of the Kenya people want to be overturned by a few individuals . Let us all get to the streets on that day.”

Ms Maina has, however, denied authoring the contentious letter.

Taking to social media, Ms Maina, captioned an image of the letter, “Desperation by the masters of forgeries.”

On August 27, Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance coalition party cancelled a seven-day vigil at the Supreme Court.

The party press secretary Dennis Onsarigo had earlier communicated that the exercise was scheduled to be carried out at all Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) offices countrywide.

“Upon further consideration, acting on the advice of our counsel and the party leadership, the Azimio La Umoja coalition members have been advised to stay calm, follow the proceedings of the apex court and not necessarily through the staging of vigils,” he said.

“Our supporters are advised to watch the proceedings of the Supreme Court from the comfort of their homes when the court commences hearings.”

The Supreme Court is expected to deliver a ruling on the presidential petition filed two weeks ago on Monday.

Azimio’s Raila Odinga was among the seven petitioners seeking to have President-elect William Ruto’s win overturned.

Should the Apex court nullify Dr Ruto’s win, a fresh election will be held in 60 days but should it uphold his win, he (Ruto) will be sworn in on September 13 “the seventh day following the date on which the court renders a decision declaring the election to be valid”.
