Karua To Take A Break From Politics As She Hints At Moving To the East African Court Over Supreme Court Verdict

Martha Karua, the leader of the Narc-Kenya party and former running mate of former premier Raila Odinga in the 2022 presidential election, says that she disagrees with the Supreme Court decision upholding President-elect William Ruto’s victory.

Speaking on Saturday at her Kimunye residence in Kirinyaga County, Karua said she is considering bringing her complaints before the East African Court of Justice, if only to get a more thorough explanation of the 7-judge bench’s decision.

She claims that many of the events surrounding the 2022 presidential election are confusing to her and that she has not yet come to terms with the fact that they were soundly defeated.

Hiyo ndio rule of law na democracy,” she said.

She added: “Kwa vile korti ilisema tuko na hot air…hot air balloon inaweza nipeleka East Africa…I am actually considering whether to travel on a hot air balloon to the East African Court just to discuss that judgment. Hii si maono ya Azimio, now it’s me as a Kenyan because also I’m entitled, as an individual, so it’s something I’m considering.”

She added that she was going on a political sabbatical but that, for the time being, they—Azimio—would have to live with and deal with the Supreme Court ruling.

She is waiting for the entire verdict from the seven judges of the Supreme Court, which is expected to be published within 21 days of the date the presidential petition decision was made.

“For now, because I have time, I will take a break…and also because korti ilisema baada ya siku 21 wataleta sababu zao za ile maono walitoa…nangojea hizo sababu,” she said.

The seven-judge bench threw out the petition seeking the nullification of Dr Ruto’s win.
