Uhuru Finally Congratulates Ruto in Farewell Address

President Uhuru Kenyatta has finally congratulated his successor, William Ruto.

In his farewell address on Monday, the fourth President of Kenya wished his deputy the best as he takes on the mantle starting tomorrow, September 13.

“My entire family and I join all Kenyans in wishing the very best to our next President Dr William Samoei Ruto,” he said.

“And extending to him our warmest congratulations in receiving the mandate of Kenyans to lead us as our fifth President.”

Uhuru used the occasion to remind Ruto that he will serve as a leader for all Kenyans, including those who did not vote for him.

He added that Ruto’s achievement extended to all Kenyans as he wished him luck.

“In the prophetic words of our National Anthem, we are summoned to purposefully dwell in unity, peace and liberty, working hard and together so that plenty may be found within our borders,” Uhuru said.

The outgoing head of state also highlighted some of the Jubilee government’s achievements in the last 10 years.

Uhuru noted that safeguarding the nation from terrorist assaults was one of the areas where his administration made notable progress.

“We achieved this by retooling our security organs and making them more capable to address the dynamic contemporary security challenges that Kenya faces,” Uhuru said.

Further, Uhuru said, the Jubilee administration has to date built 11,500 kilometres of new roads, doubling the mileage that were in existence when they took over in 2013.

In the digital space, Uhuru said the Jubilee regime has seen the growth of Tv stations from 130 up from 14 and 204 radio stations up from and 130.

“These figures do not factor the massive expansion that have seen many thousands of successfully monitise various  digital communication avenues,” Uhuru said.

The Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance coalition party chairman also asserted that the Jubilee administration has to date connected over 6.3 million households to the national power grid. 

“I therefore handover in an unbroken chain, a country that has connected more people and more homes to electricity than any other country in Africa over the last decade,” he said.  

He reaffirmed that he will respect tradition and handover power to Ruto, saying he is proud of what he has accomplished during his ten-year rule.

“I am profoundly grateful for the honour and privilege you bestowed upon me to serve as the Fourth President of the Great Republic of Kenya,” he said.
