“My objective has been achieved. My good friend, William Ruto, is the fifth President of the Republic of Kenya. This account will be permanently deleted on Wednesday, September 14, 2022 at 6pm. It was great interacting with you guys. Adios,” he told his followers.

But at the time of going to press, both pages were still active.

Speaking to the Standard, the Chama cha Kazi (CCK) party leader said he was leaving social media to “focus on things that will unite the country”.

Kuria who was vying for the Kiambu governor seat lost to United Democratic Alliance’s (UDA) Kimani Wamatangi.

He garnered a measly 24,512 votes against Wamatangi’s 348,371. Former Thika Town MP Wainaina Wa Jungle who was vying as an independent candidate came in second with 237,361 votes.

In third place was Kiambu’s first governor, William Kabogo of Tujibebe Wakenya Party, who got 106,980 votes, while the immediate former area Governor James Nyoro of Jubilee Party emerged fourth with 99,562 votes.

Also leaving social media was outgoing Interior CS Dr Fred Matiang’i. He deactivated his Twitter account on Tuesday much to the dismay of Kenyans.

Following suit was Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance flagbearer Raila Odinga’s daughter, Winnie Odinga.

Winnie deleted her account which had the previous night posted controversial tweets. The responses had targeted lawyer Donald Kipkorir.

The flashy city lawyer told Raila to “… stop crying for us. Don’t look out for Kenya anymore. Your love was unrequited. We didn’t deserve your love and sacrifice. Let’s be with our foibles and chains.”

To this, Winnie said, “Shut up for once.”

She would later claim that her account had been hacked. Shortly after, her account no longer existed.
