Supreme Court Ruling Was Inspired by the Devil – Raila Continues Attack on Judiciary

Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance presidential flagbearer Raila Odinga is not letting up on his assault on the Judiciary.

Raila who lost the presidential race for a fifth time, on Friday said the Supreme Court judgement which upheld President William Ruto’s win was inspired by the devil.

He was referring to Chief Justice Martha Koome’s sentiments. The CJ on September 7 said the judgement was “because of God”.

She was speaking at a funeral in MCK Muiteria Church in Imenti North of her late aunt Salome Maingi Gakii.

“The verdict was for the sake of independence of institutions, especially the Judiciary. It was not due to our power as a court but because we serve a living faithful God,” Koome said.

The seven judge bench comprising of Koome, Deputy Chief Justice Philomena Mwilu and justices Njoki Ndung’u, Isaac Lenaola, Smokin Wanjala, Mohammed Ibrahim and William Ouko, dismissed all the nine grounds that it had listed for determination in the presidential petition.

Speaking in Machakos during a Parliamentary Group meeting, the former Prime Minister said the CJ’s actions were sycophantic and was evidence that the court had sold its soul.

Further, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader noted, the Chief Justice had demeaned the office she holds.

On Thursday, shortly after jetting back into the country from Zanzibar, Raila said that he and his team were waiting for the judges’ detailed ruling.

A rather agitated Raila said that the court dismissed evidence that a foreigner (Jose Camargo) interfered with the electoral process.

“Why should women, the elderly (and) the disabled queue for so many hours to cast their votes when at the end of the day it is a mercenary from Venezuela called Mr Jose Camargo who eventually decide who becomes the president of this country?” he posed.

He added: “Shame on you Supreme Court!”

Raila declared that the supreme court’s biased verdict would not force him or Kenyans into silence.

“We will talk. The Constitution of this country gives power to the people of Kenya, and all the other people exercising power are exercising donated power,” added the former premier.

“So the Judiciary is no exception, if they become rogue, we have power as the people of this country to reform them and send them home. We can lead a million march to the Judiciary to say kwendeni nyumbani and they will have no choice but to go home.”
