Get Used to the Truth – Rigathi Justifies Attack on Uhuru During Inauguration

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has justified his aggressive statement during his and President William Ruto’s inauguration ceremony two weeks ago.

Kenyans were alarmed by Gachagua’s address, with many alleging that the former regime was treated unfairly in front of the international community.

However, in response to his detractors, the second in command stated there was nothing improper about what he said.

Speaking on Sunday during a Thanksgiving ceremony hosted at the State House, the former Mathira MP asserted that what he stated was true, and advised the public to “get used to the truth.”

The former legislator claimed his parents instilled in him the value of speaking the truth at all times.

“I know many people had a problem that I said the truth in front of visitors. But I think to many it is bad upbringing. I was brought up by my parents and told to always speak the truth. I want to invite the people of Kenya wazoee ukweli (get used to the truth),” he said.

Gachagua made the remarks while pleading with Kenyans to pray for President Ruto, who he said had taken over a nation in a “difficult situation.”

“It is not easy we are in a difficult situation. Drought is ravaging people across the country. People have no food, hospital bills are an issue. Schools are an issue and all these are on one man. He can’t do it alone. God must come through for him and I ask you to continue to pray for him,” he added.

In his maiden speech at the Kasarani Stadium, the former Mathira MP said that the journey ahead would not be rosy as they were inheriting a dilapidated economy.

“The truth of the matter is that we have inherited a dilapidated economy which almost facing shut down. we have a huge task to liberate this country and bring it back to where Kibaki left it,” he said.

“We have talked to the treasury, and the coffers are empty. We will have to start from scratch.”

He accused the administration of former President Uhuru Kenyatta of intimidating Kenya Kwanza-affiliated leaders.

However, he gave Kenyans assurances that Ruto’s administration would defend the law without resorting to coercion or threats.

“I want to tell the people of Kenya that today is a great day. Kenya is now a democratic country. It became a crime to be a friend of William Ruto. You are finally free,” added the former legislator.
