Cabinet Appointees to be Sworn in on Thursday Following Approval by Parliament

The 22 proposed Cabinet Secretaries who received the national assembly’s approval have been gazetted by President William Ruto.

The leaders, who are an extension of the Executive arm, will formally take their oaths of office on Thursday.

In a gazette notice dated October 26, the head of state also named Mercy Wanjau as the secretary to the Cabinet.

“In the exercise of the powers conferred by Article 156 (2) of the Constitution, I, William Samoei Ruto, the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Kenya Defence Forces, appoint Justin Muturi as the Attorney General, with the effect from October 27,” the gazette notice reads in part.

The CSs include Aden Duale (Defence), Alfred Mutua (Foreign Affairs), Alice Wahome (Water), Kithure Kindiki (Interior) and Njuguna Ndung’u (Treasury).

Davis Chirchir (Energy), Moses Kuria (Trade), Kipchumba Murkomen (Transport), Soipan Tuya (Environment) and Peninah Malonza (Tourism).

Zacharia Njeru (Housing), Susan Wafula (Health), Mithika Linturi (Agriculture), Eliud Owalo (ICT) and Ezekiel Machogu (Education).

Others are Ababu Namwamba (Sports), Rebecca Miano (EAC), Simon  Chelugui (Co-operatives), Salim Mvurya (Blue Economy), Aisha Jumwa (Gender) and Florence Chepngetich (Labour).

The appointments come after the National Assembly unanimously approved all the nominees including Ms Malonza whose nomination had been rejected by the Committee on Appointments.

Garissa Township MP and his Kandara counterpart resigned as MPs as they prepared to take up their new roles.

Duale urged the lawmakers to be vigilant while passing laws as he confessed to passing laws that were not good for the independent institutions.

“Let’s also keep our independent institutions independent. Don’t make laws that will hobble these institutions,” he said.

“I naively did that at some point, but I have since learnt how costly it is to the people of this country and even to parliament.”

He also told his now former colleagues that he will work with the Legislative arm of government for the well-being of the generation.

“If anyone of you wants my help, please do not hesitate to visit my office. I will make time for you.”
