Azimio Claims Gov’t Harassing IEBC Staff, Demands Audit of Election Results

Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance coalition party insists its leader Raila Odinga won the August 9 elections.

Addressing reporters at the Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka (SKM) Command Centre on Thursday, the principals claimed they did not have the “valid” results when they challenged President William Ruto’s win at the Supreme Court.

Led by Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, the opposition maintained that Raila garnered 8.1 million votes while Dr Ruto got 5.9 million votes.

But according to the final tally as announced by the IEBC on August 15, 2022, Dr Ruto won with 7.18 million of the votes (50.49 per cent) against Raila’s 6.94 million votes (48.85 per cent).

“It’s unbelievable what we are told about Raila’s votes in Mt. Kenya. For instance, in Kiambu County, we understand that Raila got 434,501 votes while Ruto got 371,377 votes. In Kirinyaga County, Raila got 186,831 votes while Ruto got 72,399 votes,” said Kioni.

“They denied us access to the real data when we needed it. We are now demanding forensic audit into the results,” added the former Ndaragwa MP.
