KUP Dumps Azimio, Signs Pact with Kenya Kwanza

Kenya Kwanza has signed a post-election pact with Kenya Union party (KUP).

The Prof John Lonyangapuo-led outfit signed a pact with Kenya Kwanza on Thursday, putting in limbo the bipartisan talks.

The talks were suspended indefinitely on Tuesday after the members disagreed on the inclusion of KUP’s David Pkosing and Jubilee’s Adan Keynan.

The Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance camp had included Pkosing in their team while the government side had Keynan.

Speaking at the United Democratic Alliance offices, National Assembly Majority Whip Silvanus Osoro said the opposition should drop Pkosing if they were to replace Keynan.

“As you say we withdrawal Keynan, then you should also drop Pkosing,” he said.

“Longangapuo, the KUP party leader is here and it should go to Azimio that Pkosing is a member of Kenya Kwanza.”

According to Osoro, KUP’s decision to formally sign a coalition agreement with Kenya Kwanza demonstrates that the party is collaborating with the government.

“Until today, the KUP has been a member of Kenya Kwanza by association but from now it is legally a member of Kenya Kwanza,” Osoro said.

John Longangapuo, the leader of the KUP party, said the party will now work with the government both within and without Parliament, including in the bipartisan talks.

“Our journey with Azimio ended after the last election and after three months we are allowed to file for divorce under the law,” said the former West Pokot Governor.

“Our voice is now in the national assembly and if there are any talks then they should be taken to MPs.”
