Ruto-allied MPs Ask Uhuru To Retire from Politics

A section of pro-government members of parliament have asked retired President Uhuru Kenyatta to retire from active politics.

Speaking on Sunday, a Jubilee Party faction led by EALA MP Kanini Kega said the National Delegates Convention (NDC) called by the former head of state will not take place.

“I want to announce as the Secretary General of Jubilee, there is no NDC meeting tomorrow. We will call the meeting at the right time,” said Kega.

Echoing his sentiments was Nominated MP Sabina Chege who asked Uhuru to focus on his retirement and steer clear of Kenyan politics.

“I urge the former president to rest because he is old now. He should come and advise us but we will be very shocked to see him going to the streets to join the protests. He should not be deceived by that mzee (Raila) again,” she said.

“There is no meeting tomorrow and that position lapsed 6 months ago and we are in the 8th month. We will call a legitimate meeting from the head office.”

Also hitting at Uhuru was Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro who asked him to make peace with President William Ruto and take his rightful place in society as a retired leader.

“Our presidential retirement benefit act is very clear that when a president retires they should sieze to hold any position in a political party. We are now 8 months since the elections,” he said.

“I urge you as a young man please help us to continue to respect the retired president’s seat. I am not qualified to advise you but call the president to congratulate him and resign from political parties.”

The former ruling party is set to hold its NDC today at the Ngong Race Course.

It was formerly supposed to take place at the Bomas of Keny but the venue will be unavailable for eight weeks.
