Police Teargas Activists Demanding Release of Anti-government Protesters

Police attached to Nairobi’s Central Police Station on Saturday lobbed teargas canisters to disperse a group of human rights activists.

Among them were former Chief Justice Willy Mutunga and Boniface Mwangi.

The activists were demanding the release of individuals arrested during the Saba Saba rally.

The protests were led by opposition Chief Raila Odinga.

“Imagine brutalising, and teargassing peaceful citizens at a police station! Congratulations @WilliamsRuto, and @rigathi @IG_NPS for showing your true colours. Watoto wa Moi ni Moi,” tweeted Mwangi.

“Our Constitution is supreme and resistance to dictatorship and impunity is our life duty! KANU 2.0.”

At least 32 protesters are being held at the station.

Anti-government protests are set to resume on Wednesday.
