Raila, Kalonzo Security Recalled Ahead of Demos

The government has withdrawn security attached to Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance coalition party leader Raila Odinga.

Also affected were Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua, over four governors and at least 50 Azimio MPs.

The affected governors include; Anyang’ Nyong’o (Kisumu), Ochillo Ayacko (Migori) and Gladys Wanga (Homa Bay), Siaya’s James Orengo and Kisumu Deputy Governor Mathews Owili.

Security attached to deputy governors and county assembly speakers from Nyanza was also recalled.

According to National Assembly Minority leader Opiyo Wandayi, the withdrawn security was attached to Raila’s Karen, Kisumu and Bondo homes as well as his bodyguards.

But a relentless Raila on Monday evening declared that the protests will go on as planned.

“Starting on Wednesday, be ready for the game-changing Maandamano,” he tweeted.

This was hours after top police commanders held a series of meetings in Nairobi to plan how to handle the anti-government protests.

The first meeting took place at police headquarters Vigilance House in Nairobi and was attended by all eight regional police commanders.

A similar meeting was held at Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters, Kiambu Road.
