We will not Negotiate a Power-sharing Deal – Kalonzo

The Bipartisan talks, according to Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, are for the sake of the people as a whole, not individuals.

The concerns that have brought them together at the Bomas of Kenya, he said, should not further divide them but rather bring them together as leaders.

“I believe that although we have been seconded here by our parties, we are here for our nation. Dialogue, peace, stability and prosperity whose name we gather are not party issues. These are Kenyan issues. These are our aspirations as the people of Kenya,” he said. 

He asked the political leaders from both sides of the political divide to give the process their all and not disappoint Kenyans.

The former vice president said that no power-sharing or self-serving interests would be discussed during the negotiations.

According to him, Azimio will conduct the bipartisan talks in a sincere manner and look for solutions that will take into account the rights and interests of all Kenyans.

He noted that the opposition side will conduct the negotiations honestly and transparently, respecting both the law and the dignity of all participating in the exercise.

The opposition has raised the following issues; the cost of living, audit of the 2022 Presidential Election Results, restructuring and reconstitution of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission and related matters, measures to prevent interference with political parties, and outstanding constitutional matters – governance issues, adequate checks and balances, and the question of boundaries delimitation.
