Raila Travels To UK for “Relaxation and Business”

Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance coalition party leader Raila Odinga on Friday night kick started his one week trip to the United Kingdom.

Raila’s spokesperson, Denis Onyango, said opposition leader will meet friends, family members and business associates for the duration of the trip.

“He will also use his stay in the UK to rest and relax, which he doesn’t do enough back at home,” he said, adding that the former prime minister will be back by the end of next week.

Before his departure, Raila attended the Devolution Conference during which he took a swipe at US ambassador to Kenya, Meg Whitman.

Whitman said the 2022 polls were the most credible that Kenya has ever held.

In his opening remarks, Raila chided Whitman for interfering in Kenya’s affairs, as he noted that Kenya was not a “US colony” and should be left to handle its issues.

The opposition chief said his faction may be forced to petition the US government to recall her.

“I want to tell the rogue ambassador, leave Kenyans alone. If maandamano can lead to dialogue between Ichung’wah and Kalonzo, everything is good with maandamano,” he said, amid applause.

“Tell the rogue Ambassador Kenya is not the United States and it is not a colony of the United States; keep your mouth shut while here, otherwise, we will call for your recall back to your country.”

Coming to Whitman’s defense were Kenya Kwanza leaders including President William Ruto, and his deputy Rigathi Gachagua.
