Gachagua Attempts to Explain “Kenya has Tigers” Blunder

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has attempted to defend his remarks that Kenya has tigers.

The DP who was speaking on Monday during the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Society Pan-African conference gala dinner said his mother-tongue was to blame for the blunder.

“From the Kikuyu nation where I come from, the Leopard and the tiger are one and the same thing. When I said there are tigers I meant Leopard(s). So go to the Nairobi National Park and see the Leopard/Tiger,” Gachagua said.

Last week, the former Mathira MP was criticized for making the false remarks during a tour of Colombia.

“Again, as you come to invest in Kenya, We have many facilities for tourism. We have rare species of wildlife; we have elephants, rhinos, buffaloes, and tigers,” he said.

Actually, no tigers have ever been seen on the continent of Africa, let alone in Kenya.

Asia, Nepal, Indonesia, and China are the main habitats for tigers. According to the Wildlife Conservation Society, there are just 3000 tigers left in the world.
