Jubilee Does Not Belong to any Coalition – Sabina Chege

The Jubilee party is an independent party, not linked to a coalition, acting party leader Sabina Chege has said.

Speaking on Tuesday at the Bomas, Chege said the former ruling party had informed National Assembly speaker Moses Wetangula of its political stance which states that it does not have a formal agreement with any political coalition.

“Our position is that we are an independent political party and we want to be represented as Jubilee party. Today we’ve just come to drop our documents hopefully we get an opportunity to give our views on the issues,” said the nominated MP.

The former Murang’a Woman Rep who was in the company of Kanini Kega and Adan Keynan, said they have listed the topics that they want to be thoroughly discussed during the Bipartisan talks, starting with the structure and independence of political parties.

She stated that political parties’ internal issues should not be meddled with, especially following a general election, and that they should be allowed to make their own decisions. She asserted that this has hurt her party’s ability to get representation in Parliament.

“You cannot stay in a coalition/marriage where you feel like you’re being mistreated and that’s what happened to Jubilee party. You know what happened after the elections,” Chege noted.

Chege also noted that Jubilee wants the 2/3 gender rule implemented not only in the national government but also at the county levels.

“We support the issue of gender in the National Assembly and also in the counties. We should not also focus on the national assembly but we hope that the issue will be looked at everywhere,” she said.

Regarding the establishment of the role of opposition leader, Chege stated that Jubilee is in support of the idea.

Additionally, they want a robust framework put in place to control the anti-government demonstrations that have become more common after elections.
