Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua Expresses Interest in Being Raila’s Running Mate

Governor of Machakos Alfred Mutua has declared interest in being Raila Odinga’s running mate in the August 9 elections.

After a meeting with Meandeleo Chap Chap National Governing Council on Sunday, the county boss expressed his interest in the position.

“With the urging of my party members, I present myself for consideration for the position of deputy president to Jakom Raila Odinga,” Mutua said.

He went on to declare that he believes the ODM leader will win the presidency because he is qualified to run the country.

“We have unanimously agreed to support the presidency of  Raila Odinga and the Azimio umbrella. Truth be told, it is his time. Just like it was Nelson Mandela’s time on May 10th, 1994,  this August 9, 2022 elections is Raila’s time,” he said.

On why he chose Raila for the top job, the outgoing county chief said: “I have a soft spot for Raila. He is a good man full of charisma. Humble man despite his power and influence. He is not just a leader but I consider him as a friend and he looks at me as a friend. He is focused and knows where Kenya is supposed to be.”

Mutua responded to accusations that he had abandoned the Azimio la Umoja by saying that their issues had been addressed and that they are now focused on winning the polls.

Failure to access and study the paper given to the Registrar of Parties by the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance coalition was one of the objections made by Mutua, his party, and seven others.

“I wish to confirm that I have at last seen the document that was placed at the Registrar of parties. I have read it and presented it to my team and we are satisfied,” he added.

He went on to promise a thorough campaign, claiming that his group will collaborate with other Azimio parties to win the presidency.

Mutua urged Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka to put aside his personal issues for the sake of the coalition.

He stated that they must work together and focus on Raila’s presidential campaign.

For the sake of Raila’s presidency, the Machakos county boss stated that he is willing to put aside his problems with the former vice president.

“Let us work together, strategise together and even campaign together because that is the only way we can win. I am ready for a Handshake so that we can forge forward and secure Raila’s presidency.”
