Babu Owino Accuses ODM of Betrayal After PAC Chairmanship Handed to Mbadi

Embakasi East MP Babu Owino is upset with his party, Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

The firebrand politician accused the Raila Odinga-led party of “blackmail” and “betrayal” over lack of representation by the youth.

He claimed that many young members of the party had supported it without being rewarded for their sacrifices.

He tweeted: “ODM Party, so many youth and myself sacrificed a lot and used our resources in the party over the years, our pay is betrayal and blackmail . It is OK. Tomorrow is another day.”

The second time MP later revealed that he was disappointed in the party after his seat on the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) committee was handed to nominated MP John Mbadi.

He protested the move saying the chairmanship will be handed to the former Suba South MP “over his dead body”.

“@TheODMparty With Due respect why should Hon John Mbadi come down from the position of Majority leader to PAC chair which was reserved for me. This will not happen!!!Over my dead body…Young people must get their space.. it’s now or never . He has been rewarded through Nomination,” tweeted the legislator.

Mbadi has too been upset with the party after it last week unveiled its House leadership line-up. He was eyeing the majority leader post which was given to Ugunja MP Opiyo Wandayi.

The former legislator protested the move saying he had been unfairly dropped even after successfully discharging his mandate.

Mbadi served as the minority leader in the 12th Parliament. He sought to vie for the Homa Bay gubernatorial seat but stepped aside for former area Woman Rep Gladys Wanga.

It is for this reason that he was nominated to the 13th Parliament.

After Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka unveiled the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance leadership in both Houses of Parliament, Mbadi accused the party of overlooking him just because he was a nominated MP.

He told NTV, “I was asked to shelve my gubernatorial ambition which I did. It will be unfair to deny the opportunity on the basis that I am nominated. I have a track record as a Minority Leader.”

According to the Nation, the MP met with Raila on Wednesday at Serena Hotel where he expressed his disappointment.

“He had a candid talk with the party leader… It’s now upon the party leader to make a decision that will restore order to our house,” a legislator aware of the goings-on told the daily.

It is after the meeting that the former Prime Minister called for a crisis meeting some time next week.
