Embakasi East MP Aspirant Cosmo Choy Apologizes for Insulting Mama Ngina

Following a recent verbal attack former first lady, Mama Ngina Kenyatta, Ombori Monari, the leader of the Abagusii group in the United States, also known as Cosmo Choy, has offered a public apology to the first family.

Choy, an enthusiastic follower of Deputy President William Ruto, took to social media on Thursday to say that he got carried away when he made the unprintable insults against Mama Ngina.

According to Choy, he was just defending DP Ruto after Mama Ngina brought him up during a recent burial ceremony in Kiambu.

“I am here to apologize to the Kenyatta Family, Mama Ngina Kenyatta and President Uhuru Kenyatta. I am sorry for the remarks that I made a few days ago. I didn’t mean it. Mama aliingia siasa na akaongea juu ya Ruto na mnajua napenda Ruto lakini siasa ni mbaya,” he said in a Facebook post.

“I do apologise. Pole sana kwa familia, pole sana mama we ni mama wetu. It is something sweet to have a mum alive, I lost my mom and I will never see her again so pole sana.  We are human beings and we make mistakes and we forgive each other.”

Choy will be seeking to contest for Embakasi East’s MP seat in the August polls pitting him against ODM’s Babu Owino.

Choy’s remarks sparked protests in the city led by Nairobi Women leaders among them Nairobi County Governor Ann Kananu, Woman Rep Esther Passaris and Gender and Affairs CAS Rachael Shebesh.

Political leaders, the women urged, should honor the former first lady and women across the country. They also urged authorities to ensure that women seeking elective positions are protected ahead of the August 9 elections.

“…The office of the DP and party leader of UDA takes responsibility for the utterances made by his diaspora point men Cosmos Choy.”

Governor Kananu, on her part, chastised the Kenya Kwanza team for insulting women and urged the party officials to show respect for women.

“Deputy President and those women around you please, can those women in Tangatanga seat with the DP and tell them to desist from abusing women?” Governor Kananu posed.

Shebesh echoed the sentiments of her fellow women, emphasizing the importance of removing gender prejudices from political debates.

She pushed male counterparts to focus on their female competitors’ ideals rather than their gender.

“…we said categorically as a ministry if you want to compete fairly as men with women, deal with the ideas not the sexuality of a woman,” she stated.
