CS Duale Explains Fallout with Raila

CS for Defence Aden Duale was once Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance coalition party leader Raila Odinga’s point man in Northern Kenya.

But they fell out during the formation of the 2008 Grand Coalition government.

Speaking to Citizen TV’s Jeff Koinange on Wednesday, the former Garissa Township MP said Raila deceived him even after campaigning for him during the hotly contested 2007 general elections.

“Baba introduced me to the school of politics… We campaigned for Raila Odinga mainly in the Muslim areas. I was his chief campaigner in the North; both in terms of the numbers, and resources, and that is where the politics of deceit started,” Duale said.

Duale explained that following the formation of the Grand Coalition, Raila who was the prime minister, settled for the late Mohamed Yusuf Haji as Defence Minister.

“When the cabinet of the grand coalition was formed, Raila Odinga looked at me in the eyes and said Kibaki has appointed another candidate, Haji, to be the Minister for Defence so we can’t have two of you from the same county, the same district then,” Duale elucidated.

The former National Assembly majority leader said Raila ought to have informed him of his decision instead of betraying him.

“I remember I told him he should have told me, I would have gone to PNU and squared out with Haji for the ministerial position, I was part of your coalition,” he said.

Duale has also detailed how he and former President Uhuru Kenyatta fell out in his book, For The Record.

He is among those who were kicked out of key leadership positions in the House following the handshake deal between Raila and Uhuru.

He and President Ruto, among others, had prior to the 2013 elections formed the United Republican Party, which later merged with other parties to form the Jubilee Party.
