CS Mucheru Involved in Election Rigging Plot – Ruto’s Campaign Secretariat

The presidential secretariat of Deputy President William Ruto now alleges there is a scheme to rig the August 9 polls in Raila Odinga’s favor.

ICT CS Joe Mucheru is at the center of the alleged conspiracy, the secretariat said in a statement on Thursday.

“Of particular concern is the emergence of the outrageous video clip of ICT CS Joe Mucheru pledging his allegiance, committing public resources and and institutions and declaring state support for Azimio la Umoja,” they said.

The team stated that high ranking government officials are attempting to take on duties and positions that will affect the poll’s conduct and outcome.

“Of concern to us is the critical role the Ministry of ICT plays in supervising and overseeing the Communication Authority of Kenya,” the team added.

CS Mucheru’s latest comments, the secretariat said, illustrate a disturbing trend among some CSs to pursue impunity.

It further stated that the IEBC’s mandate is to ensure a free, fair, and credible election at all levels.

This is the third time in less than a year that the DP’s campaign team has made poll-rigging claims.

In July 2021, the DP’s allies made similar claims, accusing some government officials of being behind the ploy.

On July 23, 2021, a group of 20 MPs held a news conference in Parliament Buildings, claiming that a government “cabal” had devised a plan to cause havoc during the elections.

“Some notorious officers of the government are perusing unlawful, irregular and unconstitutional means to incorporate an armed militia for the sole purpose of terrorising Kenyans and destabilising the country during the 2022 general election,” the MPs said then.

The claims were disregarded by the authorities as fabrications.

Ruto made similar statements on March 2, 2022, while on a visit to the United States.

He stated the plan encompassed suffocating dissent through extortion, intimidation, and the criminal justice system.

The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) presidential flagbearer called on the international community to act and prevent attempts to rig the presidential election.

“There is a huge pushback by citizens against any attempts to choreograph the next dispensation. We want to make our choices without being chaperoned, blackmailed or intimidated,” Ruto said.

Then Raila termed Ruto’s allegations as reckless, irresponsible, and uncalled for.

“DR. Ruto’s wild allegations that there is a plan to rig the upcoming election and claims of intimidation from the government are aimed at fanning emotions and creating tribal tensions ahead of the August elections

“The DP is a man who has mastered the art of putting on a show with a characteristic trait of lowering his voice, projecting himself as a humble individual before engaging in a high-level lying,” Raila said.
