DCI Summons Lawyer Danstan Omari Over Alleged Raid at Matiang’i’s Home

Lawyer Danstan Omari has been summoned by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) over a raid at former Interior CS Fred Matiang’i’s Karen home.

The lawyer is required to appear before the police senior superintendent Michael Sang at 9:30 am without fail on Wednesday at DCI headquarters along Kiambu Road.

“Failure to comply with the requisition constitutes an offence liable to prosecution,” DCI said.

The sleuths said they are probing the lawyer over the offense of publication of false information. They also believe Omari is connected to the offense or has information which can assist in investigations.

Omari told reporters that his client’s life was in danger following an alleged police raid a fortnight ago.

“I can confirm to every Kenyan in this country that the life of Matiang’i is at risk. We don’t know the intention of wanting to invade Matiang’i’s home at this time of the night. We don’t know why they want to arrest him and where they want to take him,” he said.

However, the police and the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) denied having a hand in the raid.

As a result, police sought a court order allowing them to search the premises for CCTV footage from the night of the said raid.

Last week, a court granted the DCI orders allowing them to search the former minister’s home.

“This afternoon, our officers obtained a search order to obtain CCTV recordings from the home of the former Interior Cabinet Secretary to establish the facts surrounding the alleged raid,” said Mohamed Amin, the Director of Criminal Investigations while giving a status update regarding the probe.

“Upon completing our investigation, we will take action if any officers from any security agency were involved in any unauthorized activities, or if any false information was knowingly disseminated by anyone to the public.”
