Do Not Humiliate Yourself – Wetangula Advises Kalonzo Over Raila Running Mate Vetting

Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula has asked Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka to drop out of the vetting process for Raila Odinga’s running mate.

The process, according to Wetangula, is an embarrassment to a man of Kalonzo’s stature.

The former vice president, according to the Ford Kenya leader, will be mocked if he participates in the vetting process.

Wetangula said that the Wiper party leader served as vice president for five years and twice campaigned as Raila’s running mate, implying that he is qualified even without being vetted.

“Don’t subject yourself to humiliation, ridicule and odium by being interrogated as to “suitability” for the same role/job,” he tweeted on Thursday.

Raila announced a seven-member panel to advise him on who he will choose as his running mate on Wednesday.

The panel members, Azimio Council secretary-general Junet Mohamed said, had decided to take up their new duties and deliver their new mission.

The panel consists of clergy, previous seasoned politicians, and political party officials.

“The panel members are; Bishop Peter Njenga, Archbishop Zaccheus Okoth, Senator Enock Wambua, Michael Orwa, Noah Wekesa, Sheik Mohammed Khalifa and Beatrice Moe,” Junet announced.

“The panel shall reach its decision through consensus and shall elect its chairperson. The secretary of the panel shall be Ms Elizabeth Meyo.”

The panel has until May 10 to submit the name of a candidate for the running mate position.

Kalonzo on Wednesday claimed that Raila will lose to Deputy President William Ruto without him as the running mate.

The Wiper boss declared that he and Raila are a winning combo, warning that if Azimio fails to resolve the running mate issue, Ruto and his “Hustlers” will triumph.

Kalonzo, who had asked to be the flagbearer before insisting on being the running mate, also expressed his desire to go home over the continued disagreements about the running mate position.

The former Vice President, speaking to the media at the SKM Command Centre in Karen, Nairobi, questioned why he should be subjected to a “exam.”

“This issue is beginning to weigh heavily on me. I find it almost unacceptable to discuss it. …. If this issue is solved earlier, it will give some of us the impetus to the campaign,” he said.

Narc has already submitted its party leader’s name for vetting and consideration as the suitable running mate.

Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu, the party said, has had an illustrious political career spanning over 30 years and her support for the former Prime Minister make her the best person to run alongside him in the polls.

“Given the foregoing, the Party wishes to forward the name of Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu for the coveted position of running mate and Deputy President to Raila Odinga in the forthcoming elections,” said Narc Secretary-general Fidellis Nguuli.
