DP Ruto: I Will Not Organize Demos If I Lose August Polls

Even if he loses the August 9 polls, Deputy President William Ruto has stated that he will accept the results.

Ruto expressed gratitude for his time as the first Deputy President of the Republic of Kenya in an interview with NTV on Sunday from the “Hustler’s Mansion” in Karen.

Millions of Kenyans, he said, have never had the opportunity to serve in such a role, and he does not take for granted the accomplishments he has made thus far in his life.

If he loses the polls, the DP hinted that he will spend time with his kids as he plans for the future.

“If I will not win in August, I now have grandchildren, I will be satisfied. Very many Kenyans have not gotten the opportunity to be Deputy Presidents. I really thank God that I have gotten this far, and it is something that I consider a huge achievement,” Dr Ruto told Joe Ageyo.

Ruto stated that as deputy president, he has done his best and has no regrets.

He stated that the August elections are for Kenyans to choose who they want to represent them in whichever seat they like.

Ruto has stated categorically that he will not organize any protests simply because he has been deemed a loser.

“I did my best, I served my country and it is up to Kenyans to decide who will be their next president. I want to promise you that I will not organize any demonstration. I will not pull down any railway line,” he said.

At the same time, the DP explained why he settled for Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua as his running mate in spite of him being the least popular candidate.

The DP explained that he chose Gachagua because of his love for the people and ability to connect with regular people.

Gachagua, he said, has the greatest interest of the people at heart, which is why he believes he is the finest person to be his deputy.

“He (Gachagua) is a passionate leader. He is a people’s person. He speaks about things I speak about. He speaks about ordinary Kenyans. The nexus between me and Gachagua is the people,” the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) presidential candidate averred.

At the same time, the DP verified that, despite the Tharaka Nithi senator Prof Kithure Kindiki winning on several of the criteria used to select his running mate, he still settled for Gachagua.

He explained that he chose Gachagua after consulting with members of his Kenya Kwanza Alliance team.

“There were many other instruments I was using to pick my running mate. I looked at very many things that were required of a running mate. We all settled as a team on Gachagua as a running mate,” he added.

Gachagua told Inooro TV on My 15 that the DP chose him because he is a competent mobilizer who can easily relate with the people of Mt Kenya, sentiments that the DP agreed with.

“He (Gachagua) is an accomplished public servant. Is a self-made person. What I like more about him is the passion for the people,” he stated.
