DP Ruto is Impatient, Needs To Mature – Sabina Chege

Murang’a Woman Representative Sabina Chege has expressed her support for Raila Odinga’s presidential ambition over that of Deputy President William Ruto.

Despite the fact that both have had illustrious political careers, the legislator maintains that the two think very differently politically.

“Raila is experienced. Nothing excites him. He has gone through pain and suffering. His desire is to see what he fought for and believes in come to fruition. Raila is sincere, composed and reliable. Kenyans will be safe in his hands,” she told the Nation.

The former broadcaster stated that Odinga’s consistent commitment to putting Kenyans’ interests above his own personal goals inspired her decision to endorse his fifth presidential bid.

She went on to suggest that, despite his drive, DP Ruto is impatient, which she believes will come back to hurt him in the future.

According to Sabina, it was the DP’s impatience that caused him to cut connections with President Uhuru Kenyatta after the March 2018 handshake.

She further stated that the DP would have had a greater chance of succeeding President Kenyatta if he had spent more time understanding the wider context underlying Kenyatta’s and Odinga’s meeting.

“The DP is aggressive. We don’t know if he will decide to change the constitution and stay in power forever. He is selfish and one sees bitterness in him. He is impatient. For him it is either his way or the highway,” she said.

“He had a chance to grow and take over the next government but he was impatient. The DP needs time to mature. He is excites and surrounded by young people who are pushing him.”

Despite the fact that DP Ruto has endeared himself to Mt Kenya voters more than Odinga, Sabina is optimistic that the former premier will close the gap before the August elections.

“We are becoming stronger by the day. Our opinion polls show where we are not doing well. For now, Raila is at 30 per cent,” she said.

“In the next 90 days, he will be at 45 per cent. It is a journey I am ready to take. The Raila who has been demonised in our region will lead this country.”

In February during a Sagana III meeting the head of state said he will support Dr Ruto for the top seat if he reforms.

In the meantime, however, the outgoing president asked the delegates to support Odinga.

“I’m asking you to support Raila Odinga as he means well for the Country. When “my young man reforms”, we will consider him,” Uhuru said.

He stated that the ODM leader understands where the country is heading, and will therefore be at peace to hand over the leadership mantle to him.

“The one I will handle the government, and you have mentioned him, I will leave him an economy of Sh13 trillion,” Uhuru stated.
