DPP Noordin Haji Nominated as NIS Director General

On Tuesday, President William Ruto nominated Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji for the position of director general of the National Intelligence Service (NIS).

“Consequently,  it is notified that Excellency the President has, In accordance with Section 7 (1) of the National Intelligence Service Act, nominated Noordin Haji, CBS, for appointment as the Director-General of the National Intelligence Service,” Ruto said. 

Prior to becoming the DPP, Haji worked as the National Intelligence Service’s Deputy Director of the Counter Organized Crime Unit.

Haji rejoins the service after six years as the DPP.

If appointed, he will take over from Major-General (Rtd) Philip Wachira Kameru, who is retiring.

“Under Major General Kameru’s watch, Kenya’s premier civilian intelligence agency has made monumental strides in the fight against terrorism, transnational crimes and other major threats to our national and regional security,” Ruto said.

He holds a Bachelor of Law and Masters degree from the University of Wales, Cardiff, a second Masters Degree in National Security Policy with Merit (MNSPO) from the Australian National University.

He was admitted to the Bar in 1999 and thereafter joined the Public Service in January 2000, working at the Attorney General’s Office.
