Drama in Parliament After Babu Hid Sankok’s Crutches

There was drama in Parliament on Wednesday after Embakasi East MP Babu Owino hid nominated MP David Sankok’s crutches.

The turn of events forced deputy speaker Moses Cheboi to halt proceedings.

“The matter raised by Hon. Sankok is very serious… What is surprising is that Hon Sankok you are seated there all the time. If you have lost your crutches, you should obviously have the person in mind who has taken your crutches in mind,” said Cheboi.

It was later established that the crutches had been taken by Babu.

“Hon Babu Owino you should probably take the crutches back if you are the one who took them…” added Cheboi.

Babu later confirmed that he had indeed taken the crutches because Sankok did not need them when in the House.

The crutches were taken from the legislator by the seargent-at-arms.

“Hon Speaker, Hon Sankok does not need the legs (crutches) as at now… I apologize,” Babu said to the amusement of other members.

The incident took place during a heated debate on the Political Parties (Amendment) Bill.

The Bill that has elicited mixed reactions in the political class was passed by 113 members against 68.
