EACC CEO Twalib Claims Politicians With Fake Credentials Calling Him to Complain

Twalib Mbarak, the CEO of the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission, claims that certain politicians who are allegedly in possession of phony academic papers have been calling him to protest that he was “finishing” them.

Twalib asked concerned parties to continue fighting while exuding confidence that they will put an end to the forgery of academic papers.

He called for a coordinated effort to stop the trend saying that the legal loopholes being used by the suspects will soon be closed.

“Don’t give up in the fight against the fight on fake academic papers. Support the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, support the EACC and judiciary.”

“We must support the citizen because they are ignorant. Citizens are the most powerful as they will elect these leaders,” he said.

He chided those with fake credentials for abusing the institutions they purport to have studied at.

“In this country, people with fake papers have the guts to abuse institutions. How can you have a degree and don’t know your classmates?” he wondered.

“We have crooks who are aggressive & are fighting the system. You have a fake academic paper and you have the guts to call the CEO of EACC, ‘wewe unanimaliza’ (you want to finish me).”

He also stated that the top officials and the leading candidates for president have never interfered with the commission.

Twalib’s sentiments come at a time when police are looking into some of politicians for submitting questionable documents.

They include Meru’s Mithika Linturi, Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja, and Wavinya Ndeti, who is running for governor of Machakos.

According to police, the investigation files will be forwarded to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions along with a number of recommendations.

Police were instructed by Director of Public Prosecution Noordin Haji to look into the aforementioned leaders as well as other contenders in the August 9 polls.

The DPP requested an investigation into claims and grievances made about applicants’ academic records on social and mainstream media.

“It is prudent to expand the scope of investigations beyond the two gubernatorial aspirants to include complaints against aspirants lodged with the IEBC and relevant government agencies, including complaints circulating in the digital, print and electronic media,” Haji said.

The DPP also instructed the police to probe any government agencies that may have been involved in the fraudulent clearance of aspirants without requisite documents.

“In addition, there is a need to investigate the role, if any, of any government agencies, departments and commissions to determine whether they aided and/ or abetted the commission of any offences in the issuance of relevant clearances,” he said.

Ndeti’s academic credentials were questioned by two voters who alleged that her Computer Science degree was fake.

The former Transport CAS has maintained that she earned her degree at South Bank University, London.

According to the police, Linturi had also been called in for questioning about allegations of forging his degree.

Sakaja was last week on Monday grilled on forgery allegations.

He had previously skipped a meeting with the head of the Commission for University Education. He was supposed to present evidence proving that he indeed earned the degree at Team University, Uganda.

The commission has since withdrawn its letter of degree revocation in the wake of a court injunction.

Sakaja claims to have attended graduated from the Ugandan institution of higher learning with a Bachelor of Science in Management degree (External).
