Embu DG Kariuki Resigns as Health CEC Over Mistreatment by Governor Wambora

Embu Deputy Governor David Kariuki has resigned as the County Executive Committee (CEC) member in charge of health.

Speaking at the National Independent Churches of Africa, Kairuki accused his boss and area governor Martin Wambora of failing to accord him the necessary tools to better health services.

Further, the DG claimed the docket was being used to malign his name.

“I was given the health docket in April last year to be in charge of all health facilities in the county. I have tirelessly worked for the people of Embu but no support has been channeled to me by the county government. I don’t want to be blamed for things I have not done,” Kariuki said.

Kariuki told the congregation that he had already written to Wambora to have the docket re-assigned.

Word has it that the DG who has declared his senatorial bid will run against his boss who is rumoured to be eyeing the same position.

It is for this reason that Wambora is claimed to have assigned his deputy the health docket. Those in the know alleged the move was politically motivated in a bid to have Kariuki carry the burden of a failed health docket.

In 2021, Embu health workers went on strike a number of times over delayed salaries, failure by the county government to remit third party deductions to relevant bodies among other grievances.

Sitting senator Njeru Ndwiga has, however, differed with Kariuki stating that he should have handled the matter in better manner.

He said it was devastating to see Embu county, which receives Ksh8.6 million from the national government have patients suffer from lack of health services.

According to Ndwiga, the action by the deputy governor to leave the health docket might worsen the already failed docket.
